These micromanipulators use a fine control system based on the original design by Sir Andrew Huxley FRS. Fine movement in X, Y and Z axes is provided by three large diameter head micrometers operating via push-rods through a 10:1 reduction lever, giving 2.5mm travel in each direction. The system is inherently backlash-free and offers outstanding accuracy and stability.
The three micrometer heads are mounted at the base of the instrument so the weight of the operator’s hand is not applied to any of the motions.
A single vertical axis version using the Huxley movement is available.
The fine control movement (3-axis or single-axis) is fitted with a coarse movement 3-axis system for initial positioning. This is either directly mounted on to the top plate of the Huxley base, or via a quick release top, or bar-mounted in the case of the Model HB3-U. Coarse movement is provided either by the popular MM33 micromanipulator available in Left or Right hand versions, or the smaller UM-3C micromanipulator with lockable 315o swivel mechanism.
Applications include patch-clamp and other microelectrode recording techniques, laser positioning, genetic engineering and microelectronics.
